About Ian

Ian Ford is a Brit but has lived in China since early 2003. He arrived there as a tour leader in 2001, then became regional manager and settled in the town of Yangshuo. He married a local lady (Zhang WeiFei - Faye) in 2005 and now has two boys, Luke and David.

Ian managed 5 years in the hot seat gaining extensive knowledge of tour operations and making travel contacts throughout Asia. What he lacked was time to go fishing.

Ian is now involved in several travel-related projects. Gone-Fishing-in.Asia allows him to redress the inbalance above, although never quite as much as he would like.

About Alf Exposito

Alf is the webmaster and remains very much behind-the-scenes for this project. It is his clever programming that makes Ian's job of updating the site that much easier.

Gone-Fishing-in.Asia is a new online service aimed at bringing exciting and affordable fishing holidays to fishing club members and other interested individuals.

We recognize that, though fishing for exotic big fish will be the main draw, there should also be social aspects to make your time away a complete pleasure.

Exciting fishing holidays rely on a combination of exotic species (preferably ferocious ones), great locations and a well planned itinerary that takes you to enjoyable surroundings with the minimum of fuss. We believe we have achieved the right balance, and that you will be excited by any one of our fishing holidays.

We make these fishing holidays affordable, not by cutting corners but by creating a style that is comfortable not luxurious. We presume that you will be interested in getting to the fishing grounds quickly but stop short of chartering our own aircraft. We know you will want advice of tackle and fishing locations so we lay on local fishing guides. We do not bring expensive experts from the UK or USA. We hope that this will lure more and more anglers away on the long haul, and that you experience some of the great diversity that is out there.

What we sell

In general terms, we sell fishing holidays in Asia.

To be more specific, we sell fishing holidays with a difference. Affordable fishing holidays aimed at members of UK fishing clubs and other interested individuals.

We offer standard fishing holidays which can then be tailored to suit your budget, your preferences and your fishing goals.

The difference with our fishing holidays is that we realise that the fishing is only part of the experience. We'll make sure that you get the most out of the local culture wherever you go, and that each trip has a social side as well as excellent opportunities to catch a wide range of different fish.

We can help you put together a trip of a lifetime ... and will then hope to see you again for more of the same next year!

What we don't sell

We cannot offer international flights but we do suggest useful online sites to check in our 'Getting to ...' pages.

We cannot provide you with the necessary visas. We do offer visa support (getting invitation letters from our agents etc) when required.

We believe that the final choice of tackle, equipment and clothing should be yours but offer a Fishing Tackle and Equipment Checklist and will always respond to any questions that you may have.

We can always put you in touch with other equipment and service providers; you just need to email and ask.

Our bookings services

We provide all booking services by email. We aim to acknowledge all queries within 24 hours, and to either answer them within 48 hours or let you know when we'll have an answer within the same time frame.

Once you have a confirmed booking we'll provide a mobile telephone number (in China) for last minute or emergency contact.

Gone-Fishing-in.Asia for Individuals

We offer set departure dates of our fishing holidays for individuals. We need a minimum of 4 individuals to make these fishing holidays affordable as well as enjoyable.

The best dates are charged at a small premium, and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

Additional Services

We can offer additional travel services for individuals. You may want extra nights in the same hotel before or after the fishing holiday, or another activity in-country. Please email with your request.

Gone-Fishing-in.Asia for Groups

We offer a booking service tailored to you and your group. We will use our experience to prompt you for those little details that can make all the difference.

We offer one other special service. We act as impartial advisers for your group and suggest compromise solutions when the whole party do not agree on all points. This will be especially important for the organiser (for you?), such that he/she doesn't cop all the blame when one person doesn't get their way.

For groups of 4 or more wanting to book together we offer several options:

• Book on any standard fishing holiday - Such a tour would be guaranteed to run because you already meet the minimum number. For large groups (6 or more) we will run a separate fishing holiday as this would otherwise detract from the enjoyment of the other individuals.
• Request a new departure date that suits your group - This must be within any permitted fishing season.
• Request a modified fishing holiday - This can include other activities and destinations in-country if you like. Let us know what you want and we'll lay it on ... if it's legal!

Group prices are based on the tour itinerary, inclusions, departure date and group size.We offer our best prices for groups of 9 or more booking together. Our quote can be done on a 'Free Place' basis upon request.
